Folio is an optional Anki desktop add-on. Calendar connections and AI are choices you make, not requirements for studying.

01 / On your computer
Folio reads your Anki collection to display decks, card counts, review activity and study progress. It also stores settings you enter: names, greetings, appearance choices, images, study goals, calendar choices and saved source-library text.
Local settings and integration files live in the add-on’s user_files folder, with separate data for each Folio profile. These files are not an encrypted Folio vault. The current Google connection stores authorization tokens in private profile files, not in your operating system’s credential vault. Protect access to your computer and its backups.
Folio settings and connection files do not upload through Anki sync. Cards you explicitly save to your collection follow your Anki sync choices. Installing an update over the same add-on preserves local settings; it does not erase them.
02 / Google Calendar
When you choose Connect Google, Google handles sign-in and permission approval in your browser. Folio receives authorization tokens, never your Google password.
Folio requests permission to list your calendars, read calendar events, and manage secondary calendars created by the app. Google’s reading permission is broader than a single calendar; Folio reads events from the calendars you select for upcoming dates and study planning. The calendar list is also used to identify the dedicated study calendar.
Google can return full event records while a request is processed. The normal saved reading snapshot contains titles, dates and times, calendar labels, busy status, event categories and identifiers. It does not copy descriptions, locations or attendees. These dates help Folio show what is coming up and avoid busy times.
Calendar requests go directly from Folio to Google, not through a Folio-maintainer server. If you enable automatic refresh, selected calendars can refresh while Anki is open. The calendar connection does not automatically send events to an AI model.
Our Google data-use commitment
Folio will comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used for the visible calendar and study-planning features described here. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train general-purpose AI models. This commitment is not a claim of Google verification.
03 / Publishing a study plan
Connecting a calendar does not publish sessions. You first preview a plan, check the proposed changes and choose to publish them. Folio writes to a dedicated Folio-created “Folio Study” calendar in your chosen Google or iCloud account.
The plan can include study times and goal names you enter. Folio saves local identifiers and comparison records so it can recognize its own sessions and preserve later edits. It only changes sessions verified as belonging to that profile’s plan; it does not invite attendees or change calendar sharing permissions.
Anyone you share that calendar with may see its study details. Cancelling a request cannot undo a change the provider has already accepted.
04 / iCloud, links & calendar files
Private iCloud connections send your Apple Account email and app-specific password directly to Apple’s calendar service. The password stays in memory for that connection window and is forgotten when it closes. Reconnect to refresh private iCloud calendars next time. Calendar labels, hashed account/calendar identifiers and saved dates remain local. The separate publishing window also uses its password for that session only.
Subscription links are saved locally and sent to the calendar provider named by the link. A link can contain a private access token: treat it like a password. An imported .ics file is copied into the profile and may contain details beyond those displayed. Exporting a plan creates a file where you choose; importing it elsewhere shares it with that application.
If you use the older, separately installed advanced Google companion, its credential store and background service have separate controls. Disconnecting the normal reader does not remove that companion or stop its service.
05 / Optional AI
AI is off by default. If you enable it, requests go to the model connection you select: your computer, another computer you control, or an external service. Asking a question or drafting cards can send your question, selected source passages and labels, and any image you attach to that connection.
Saved source-library text stays in your local profile until you remove it. Model providers can keep their own request logs, and locally managed models can produce local logs. Folio cannot erase a request already received by a model server. Check your chosen provider’s privacy practices; a remote connection is not automatically private.
07 / Disconnecting & deleting data
- Disconnect Google removes this Folio profile’s locally saved Google tokens and Google reading selections and dates. It preserves unrelated providers, local publication records, client setup and existing Google events. It does not revoke Google’s account-level permission.
- Remove all reading calendars clears reading selections, imported calendar copies and saved reading dates. It keeps the separate Google sign-in for publishing.
- Disconnect iCloud removes its selected calendars and saved dates while preserving other providers. Closing its window releases session credentials but does not delete saved dates.
- To revoke Google permission, remove Folio in your Google Account connections. This may affect other profiles or computers using that grant. Google explains how to manage access.
- Remove published sessions using Folio’s reviewed removal preview while connected, or in your calendar app. Sessions you edited may need to be removed there.
Local snapshots and publication records have no general automatic deletion deadline. Disconnecting does not purge exports, migration backups, old companion data or computer backups. Folio currently has no single button that erases all those copies. Contact rodie105@gmail.com for help identifying the correct local profile and any separate companion before deleting files. Cards saved to Anki and data already sent to another provider require separate handling.

The hosting provider may process ordinary web requests, such as your IP address, browser information and request time, to deliver and protect the site.
